Facing spiralling insurgency in several states, the paramilitary forces on Monday got full support from Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who felt that their job was "tougher" than that of the army.

"The army has to eliminate terrorists. It is a tough job. But the police have to fight terrorists and at the same time protect the lives of innocent civilians. I think their job is tougher than that of the army," he said.

Addressing Central Reserve Police Force personnel on the occasion of 'Valour Day' in Delhi, he also favoured making of short films capturing the heroic deeds of paramilitary forces to highlight their role in protecting the nation.

"It is important to bring to the people's attention the heroic deeds of paramilitary forces personnel. They are thrilling and I think no film or novel can match them," Patil added.

The CRPF observes 'Valour Day' on April 9 every year to mark the herculean effort by a handful of CRPF men to beat back a full-fledged infantry brigade attack by Pakistan to overrun the vital Sardar Post in Rann of Kutch in 1965.

The minister said he has always defended the police even though he had to face attacks in Parliament from Opposition over some of their failures.

"We are even asked whether you were caught napping. But I always tell them, see these are the men who saved you by sacrificing their lives when Parliament was attacked," Patil added.
