The Haryana police have made an entry in the daily diary register in connection with the alleged poaching of a deer and two rabbits against eight persons, including former Indian cricket team captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a senior police officer said on Sunday.

"No formal case has been registered," Rohtak range Inspector General of Police V N Rai told PTI on telephone, adding that investigations were still on.

The DDR entry has been made following the recovery of a carcass of a deer and two rabbits from certain vehicles by the Jhajjar police on Friday, he added.

A post-mortem of the recovered dead animals is expected on Monday.

Further action in the matter will be taken only after the post-mortem, Rai said.

The ownership of the vehicle from which the dead animals were recovered has also to be ascertained, Rai said.

Pataudi had not been questioned so far and he was not driving the vehicle, the IGP added.

Police sources said that two guns, 50 cartridges and two searchlights were also recovered.

Those named in the DDR entry included Pataudi and his friends, Shashi Singh, Dyal Singh, Balwan Singh, Shahid Ahmad, Mohammad Ayub, Yasudin and Madan.
