Two security personnel were suspended within hours of a motorcyclist almost ramming into Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's motorcade on Thursday morning.
"ASI Pratap Singh of the Tilak Marg police station did not properly brief the CRPF personnel deployed along the stretch under his jurisdiction. He has been suspended," Delhi Police Commissioner R S Gupta told PTI.
Denying there was any 'security breach', Gupta said a local resident requested a CRPF head constable permission to leave as he had some urgent work, which the former refused due to VIP movement.
"There were three VIPs - the President, Vice-President and the prime minister. As soon as the first motorcade passed, the head constable obliged the resident," Gupta said.
"It was indiscretion on the part of the ASI not to have briefed the CRPF personnel that nobody should be allowed before all VIP movement is over," the police chief said.
Gupta said he held a high-level detailed meeting to 'suitably sensitise' the personnel in the regard.
"We try to keep a delicate balance between the requirements of public convenience and VIP security," the commissioner added.
Meanwhile, a CRPF spokesman said Head Constable Ajay Singh of the 139 Battalion, deployed on the VIP route this morning, too has been 'suspended'.
Singh had allegedly allowed a motorcyclist to pass ahead of the prime minister's motorcade.
