Devendra Fadnavis was on Friday sworn in as chief minister of the first BJP government in Maharashtra at a grand ceremony.

Groomed in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh tradition and handpicked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Fadnavis is the 27th chief minister of Maharashtra and the 18th person to hold the post.

The Wankhede Stadium, which normally witnesses sell-out crowd when Team India takes the field, was buzzing with thousands of BJP supporters.

4,000 VIP invitees include actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Aamir khan, industrialists like Ratan Tata and the Ambani brothers, and politicians ranging from Sharad Pawar to former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
