An assistant sub-inspector has been suspended for inadvertently causing a blast on the premises of a district court in Amritsar on Thursday.
"We have suspended Dilbagh Singh, who was supervising the dismantling of live ammunition," Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar, Kultar Singh told rediff.com on Friday. "A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against him."
"On Thursday, I had told journalists that the blast was not caused by any terrorist group. I am telling you this because I have had a vast experience of dealing with terrorist cases," he added.
The blast was so loud that it broke the windowpanes of almost all homes within a radius of 200 meters, according to witnesses.
Most of the injured were allowed to go after being adminstered first aid. Only seven people were admitted to various hospitals for further treatment.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced an assistance of Rs 2,000 for each of the injured.
