Here's what Obama will do on Day 1 of India visit

United States President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were accorded a red carpet welcome upon their arrival in New Delhi for a three-day visit.

The US presidential aircraft, Air Force One, touched down at the Palam Air Force Station tarmac at 9:47 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sidestepped protocol to welcome the Obamas.

After a brief photo call, the visiting dignitaries hopped into ‘the beast’, the armoured US presidential car, and headed for ITC Maurya.

Here’s what lies ahead for Obama on Day 1 of his three-day visit:

Noon: The Obamas are accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

12.40 pm: Visit to Rajghat to pay tributes to Father

of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and planting a sapling at the venue.

1:30 pm: Luncheon meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and delegation-level talks at the Hyderabad House.

2:24 pm:US president and the prime minister do a walk and talk for the press at Hyderabad House.

3.05 pm: Expanded delegation-level meeting followed by a joint press conference

6:45 pm: Obamas will meet US Embassy staff and their families at the ITC Maurya hotel

7.35 pm: Obama meets President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

7.50 pm: The First Couple attend a state dinner at Rashtrapati Bhawan
