A local court on Thursday remanded Rupam Pathak, the school teacher who allegedly killed Bihar's member of legislative assembly Raj Kishore Keshari on Tuesday, to 14-day judicial custody. Pathak had allegedly stabbed to death Keshari at his residence in Purnia on Tuesday morning.

Pathak was produced in the court on Thursday amid tight security, said police officials.

On Tuesday, Pathak had been admitted at the Katihar Hospital in a critical condition after she was badly beaten up by the MLA's security guards and supporters after the incident.

According to Purnia range Deputy Inspector General Amit Kumar, an FIR has been registered on Thursday against Rupam Pathak and two others, including Navlesh Pathak, the editor of local English weekly 'Quisling'. The weekly had first reported the sexual harassment complaint made by Pathak against the MLA.

"The police have interrogated Navlesh Pathak," Kumar told rediff.com over the telephone.

Ruma Pathak, wife of the arrested journalist, alleged that the police was biased in its inquiry.

Meanwhile, Rupam Pathak's mother has approached the state human rights commission and appealed for justice for her daughter.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has ruled out a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder.

"There is no possibility of the state government handing over an inquiry into the Keshari murder case to CBI at the moment," said Modi.

He claimed that the state police was fully competent to conduct an investigation into the case.
