Indian Navy is in the process of modernisation with the induction of new platforms fitted with potent weapons and sensors, Rear Admiral Rajender Singh, chief of Staff Southern Naval Command, said Monday.
With its cutting edge technology and professionalism, Indian Navy was now a power to be reckoned with in the Indian Ocean region, he said addressing the passing out parade of the officers of 63rd observer course who were trained in anti-submarine warfare, air warfare and electronic systems besides basic training in air navigation and flying procedures.
Singh also presented "wings" to five officers who who undertook the 45-week course.
After their training, these officers would function as sensor operators and tactical mission commanders onboard maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft of the navy.
Lt Kaushik Dhar was awarded the Uttar Pradesh Trophy for the best all-round trainee, while Lt Nikhil Srivatsa received the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Rolling trophy for standing first in the flying training.
Lt Vinay Rana was awarded the Sub Lt R V Kunte Memorial Book prize for being the best in ground subjects.
