Ex-IAF officer's murder: Prime accused held

The prime accused in the murder of a retired Indian Air Force officer, his wife and sister in Chandigarh has been arrested at Dimapur and is being escorted back, superintendent of police Bidhu Shekhar said in Kohima on Thursday.

Dimapur police on Tuesday arrested the accused - Pawan Deep Singh - from a village near Dimapur town for the murder of retired group captain T I Singh, his wife Shivani and sister Ajit Kaur in Chandigarh on February six, Shekhar said.

During interrogation, Singh, who works for a private firm at Gurgaon, admitted that he along with two others - Anil Tyagi and Ravi Kant Tyagi - shot dead the victims with a 9 mm pistol.

The Chandigarh police had informed Dimapur police that Singh had fled to Nagaland after committing the crime. He had arrived at Dimapur along with his girlfriend, the daughter of a hotel proprietor at Dimapur, the police said, denying any involvement of the girl's family in the murder.

Two Chandigarh police personnel arrived in Dimapur on Wednesday to escort Singh back to the police station under whose jurisdiction the murder case was registered. Another accused - Ravi Kant Tyagi was in police custody but Anil Tyagi was still at large, the police said.
