Mumbai’s famous Taj Mahal Hotel and the domestic and international airport terminals are on high alert after receiving a terror threat.
The airport manager received a call late on Monday night warning of possible bomb blasts at the hotel, which was targeted during the 2008 terror attacks, and the terminals, according to the police. The caller allegedly said he had overheard a plan to attack the three sites.
Authorities at the airport as well as at the Taj received a call around midnight from an unknown number threatening to blow up these places on Tuesday, following which they informed the police, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection-1) Mohan Dahikar.
Both the threat calls were made in quick succession, said Dahikar. The Anti-Terrorism Squad is also keeping a tab on such calls, police added.
Bomb disposal squads have been deployed at the five-star hotel and the airports.
The call maybe a hoax, but the police are not taking any chances. It has been described as a "specific threat", according to a TV report.
The threat comes a day ahead of the sentencing of 12 men convicted for their role in the 7/11 Mumbai serial blasts.
