Nooriya Haveliwala, who was arrested for mowing down two persons in January allegedly under the influence of alcohol, has tested positive for drug consumption, the police said on Wednesday.

"We received Nooriya's drug report from the forensic lab today and she has tested positive for consumption of narcotic substances like morphine and cannabis," said Additional Commissioner of Police R K Padmanabhan.

Nooriya, 27, was driving towards her home at Colaba in south Mumbai on January 30 when she lost control over her Honda CRV vehicle and hit a bike and a police jeep.

Dina Nath Shinde, a traffic police sub-inspector and one Afzal Shaikh were killed in the accident while four traffic police constables sustained serious injuries. Nooriya's initial medical tests revealed high intake of alcohol.

"We will now seek her custody again to find out from where she had procured the drugs and the quantity she had consumed," Padmanabhan said.

He further said that Nooriya will now be also booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for consumption. She has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash and negligent driving. Nooriya is currently in judicial custody.
