Twenty-four workers of defunct textile mills in Mumbai on Saturday were handed over the keys of the flats built for them by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

Government has decided to provide housing to workers of the defunct mills of Mumbai through draw of lots.

Rukhmani Krishna Shinde, widow of Krishna Shinde, a martyr of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, has also been allotted a free flat.

"A committee under Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat is working on providing flats to the mill workers who left Mumbai at their respective districts and talukas," Chavan said on this occasion.

He also assured that he would meet the leaders of mill workers within the next four days. To provide houses to mill workers was the state government's responsibility, he said.
