Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes a year in office, a new survey has found that the government enjoys considerable support in the country.

According to a CNN-IBN-Axis MyIndia poll, 72 per cent of the respondents indicated positive support for the government's functioning.

The findings of the survey -- spanning across 23 states and over 155 districts -- also show a lack of support for the controversial statements made during Modi's tenure.

Major findings of the survey:

  • 72 per cent of the respondents said that they are satisfied with the performance of the Modi government on account of development, skilful governance and lower prices in the previous year.

  • 56 per cent of the sample believes that Modi is an effective prime minister and has helped improve India’s image globally.

  • Respondents have shown strong faith in the Modi government as 61 per cent feel that the new government has elevated their economic condition and 63 per cent state that India’s economy has started looking up in the last one year.

  • Most respondents feel that corruption and inflation have either come down or have stagnated at the very least; employment opportunities, on the other hand, have gone up as per 62 per cent of the respondents.

  • When asked about the government led initiatives, 85 per cent respondents endorsed Swachch Bharat as one of the best initiatives.

  • 76 per cent supported Jan Dhan Yojana, and other initiatives such as Make in India and Digital India also received a positive response with 43 per cent and 42 per cent support, respectively though there was some ambiguity with regards to the land bill.

  • Respondents also felt that PM Modi has effectively utilised every possible communication tool to reach out to varied audiences.

  • 30 per cent stated that radio, specifically the PM’s Sunday address Mann Ki Baat, has been used very well.

  • 23 per cent endorsed the use of TV while 20 per cent gave a thumbs-up to the use of social media platforms.

  • 17 per cent and four per cent mentioned public rallies and interventions in parliament, respectively as effective tools for communication used by PM.

  • 32 per cent of the respondents felt that there was no interference by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the affairs of the government.

  • On the impact of controversial statements such as those relating to 'Ghar Wapsi', approx 31 per cent of the respondent felt that such statement do not dent the image of the government at all whereas around 33 per cent felt that such statements do have an adverse impact.

  • Overall 43 per cent of the respondents felt that those individuals making controversial statement should be controlled.
