A 27-year-old girl from Mizoram was found dead under mysterious circumstances in south Delhi's Munirka area last night, police said.

The girl was living in with a male partner, identified as one Virender Singh, who has been detained by police for questioning after he had last night taken her to a hospital where she was declared dead, police said.

Investigators, who have ruled out any racial angle to the case, said that the girl had been staying with Singh in the one-room rented accommodation for the last couple of months.

"We received information from Safdarjung hospital at around 11 pm Thursday night that a girl has been brought dead there. Our team reached the hospital where the deceased was identified as Juliet, a resident of Aizwal in Mizoram. She was working at a call centre in Gurgaon," said a senior police officer.

The questioning of Singh, a resident of Haldwani in Uttarakhand, and the preliminary inquiry has revealed that there was a party at the victim's house last night which was attended by at least 5 people.

Singh had found Juliet lying in a pool of blood after the party following which he rushed her to the hospital. The victim had sustained a blunt injury to her head and a stab wound on her abdomen and thigh, police said.

"The people who had attended the party are being questioned. A medical board has been constituted for the post-mortem, which will be conducted once Juliet's family reaches Delhi. Any action would be taken only after the cause of death is ascertained," the officer added.

Neighbours claimed they heard screams issuing in the night from the house, which suggests that some argument had taken place there before the girl was found murdered.

Forensic experts and a Central Bureau of Investigation team visited the spot and the house has been sealed after collection of evidence.

A case of murder has been registered in this connection at Vasant Vihar police station, police said.

Police said that Juliet had come to Delhi around 5 years back. Singh was preparing for the civil services examination, they added.
