Militants strike in Srinagar; kill 2 security personnel

Two security personnel were killed and another critically wounded when militants struck in the heart of Srinagar on Saturday morning.

Police said militants shot and killed a policeman in the Batmallo locality of the city immediately after attacking two on-duty central reserve police force troopers in the Regal Chowk area of the city.

According to the police, militants opened fire from a close range at two on-duty CRPF troopers in Regal Chowk, injuring both critically.

"The injured troopers were taken to the hospital for treatment but one CRPF jawan succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the other trooper is serious," a senior police officer said. Both areas have been cordoned off to carry out searches.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks till now. The militant strikes come after a long lull in militant activities in the area.
