Militants kill SPO, injure trooper in Sopore

Militants gunned down a Special Police Officer and critically wounded a trooper of the Territorial Army in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Saturday afternoon.
 
A senior police officer said the attack happened in Brat Kalan locality of Sopore town, 54 km from capital Srinagar.
 
"Militants opened fire, killing the SPO Riyaz-ul-Hassan

on the spot. A trooper of the Territorial Army, identified as Tariq Ahmad, was critically wounded in the militant shootout," said the officer.
 
Tariq was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.
 
Tension gripped the area and searches were conducted. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
