Militants on Friday fired rifle grenades targeting an army bunker guarding a camp of the security forces in Sopore in north Kashmir.

A senior police officer said militants fired two grenades at the bunker. A mobile tower is also located in the vicinity of the camp.

However, no one was injured in the attack. It is not yet known as to whether the bunker or the adjacent mobile tower was the real target.

The two explosions triggered panic in the town where communication network has been affected following series of militant attacks at telecom facilities in Sopore town and also the locals associated with the business.

Two persons have so far lost their lives in the attacks and two others critically wounded.

An unknown militant group, ‘Lashkare Islam’ has been issuing threats to the franchise of the telecom companies. In a statement to a local news agency, Gazi Abu Sariq, spokesman of the outfit asked the telecom companies ‘to wind up their operations within one day’.
