Ten persons, including six policemen, were injured in protests in Srinagar where the hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a shutdown Friday.

A protestor was critically wounded when protests erupted in the uptown Maisuma locality. Witnesses said 14-year old Faizan was rushed to the city's SMHS hospital where a team of doctors operated upon him.

Police said security forces had to intervene after an unruly mob indulged in heavy stone pelting. The mobs took to streets in the area and other parts around city centre Lal Chowk.

A strike is being observed in the capital city called by Syed Ali Shah Geelani which shut shops, businesses in capital city where public transport is also off the roads.
