Manipur ambush: Mortal remains of soldiers cremated

The mortal remains of six soldiers martyred in Manipur last week belonging to Jammu region of the state were cremated with full military and state honours on Sunday.

“Mortal remains of seven valiant martyrs reached from Imphal in a special Indian Air Force aircraft at midnight at air force station Jammu,” a defence spokesman said in a statement.

“Six martyrs, naib subedar Ram Singh, resident of Swankha More, Vijaypur, Hav Satpal Bhasin, resident of Muthi, Jammu, Hav Randeep Singh, resident of village Bomal, Akhnoor, Lance Naik Kuldeep Raj, resident of village Burn, Jammu, Sepoy Vijay Kumar, resident of village Serh, Akhnoor and Hav Sunil Kumar resident of Sunderbani were from Jammu region and Martyr Sepoy Manjeet Singh was from Pathankot,” the statement said.

The statement said, “Before the dispatch of the mortal remains for the last rites and military funeral, the wreath was laid at station headquarters Jammu. The wreaths were laid by Major General Dushyant Singh, GOC, Tiger Division, Air Commodore Ashutosh Lal, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jammu, Station Commander, Jammu, Col A Mathur, Administrative Commandant and other officers.”

State deputy chief minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh attended the last rites and military funeral of Hav Satpal Bhasin while Jugal Kishore, MP attended the last rites and military funeral of Lance Naik Kuldeep Raj and  Ravinder Raina, MLA attended the last rites of Hav Sunil Kumar.

The statement said that Major General Kulpreet Singh, General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division, attended the last rites and military funeral of Hav Randeep Singh. 

Brigadier Vivek Sharma, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division attended the last rites and military funeral of  Hav Sunil Kumar.

A large number of locals including their family members, army authorities and civil dignitaries were present and paid homage to the martyrs, the statement added.
