A 27-year-old man from Tirupati was arrested by the cyber cell of the CB-CID for creating a page containing paedophilic content on social networking site Facebook. The page had more than 3,000 members.

Yadava Manikanta, a diploma holder in house-keeping, was arrested from his house after police tracked down his IP address. A complaint was filed by Chennai-based NGOs working for prevention of child abuse.

He used to upload pictures of children for a year. The page, which had comments of a sexual nature along with photos of children, was later blocked after a few people wrote to Facebook.

CB-CID police registered a case under the Information Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was brought to Chennai and remanded in judicial custody. Further interrogations are on to track the network.

According to preliminary investigations, Manikanta used to clandestinely shoot photographs of children on his mobile phone at public places in and around Tirupati. He usually shot tourists who visited the temple town and also sourced photos from the internet.
