A major fire broke out at Akruti Trade Centre, a commercial complex housing a number of corporate offices in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in suburban Andheri late on Friday evening.

According to chief fire officer H N Mujawar, the fire started at a canteen located on the sixth floor of the building and soon spread on the seventh floor.

Over 15 fire engines were rushed to the spot to dowse the flames. No casualties were reported in the incident, he said.

Even though the exact cause of the fire was not known, fire brigade officials said that short-circuit could be behind the mishap.

Efforts were on to bring the fire under control.
