After 16 years of Lakshmanpur Bathe massacre, in which 58 persons, including women and children, were killed in Arwal district, the main accused was arrested on Thursday. The main accused, Dharma Singh, was nabbed from a place near Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Arwal Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar Singh said.

The police had announced a reward of Rs one lakh for any information that could lead to his arrest. Armed members of Ranbir Sena, a private militia of upper caste landlords, led by Dharma Singh, killed 58 persons, including 32 women and children, in Lakshmanpur Bathe village of Arwal district on December one, 1997.

Additional District and Sessions court Judge of Patna, Vijay Kumar Mishra had in 2010 awarded death sentence to 16 and life imprisonment to 10 others in the massacre case.
