In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, Maharashtra government has transferred 73 IAS officers, including Praveen Darade, who has been elevated as additional Metropolitan Commissioner from the Chief Minister's Office.

The transfers were effected keeping in mind the demands of ministers, an official said, adding the conflict between them was resulting in inefficiency of work.

The government is ready with another list of transfers involving at least 15-20 IAS officers in the next one week, the senior official said.

According to a government notification issued late last night, Darade, who was Secretary in the CMO, has been transferred as the Additional Metropolitan Commissioner in MMRDA, while Sitaram Kunte (earlier with Finance department) has now been given post of Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education department.

Additional Chief Secretary D K Jain has been transferred to the finance department.

Ujjwal Uke, who was in the Social Justice department has been transferred as Principal Secretary (Textile), Co-operative, Marketing and Textile department. He has been replaced by S K Bagade.

Mukesh Khullar has been transferred as the Principal Secretary (Services) in general administration department, Mahesh Pathak as Principal Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies, K H Govindraj as Commissioner, Nashik, Upamanyu Chatterjee as Principal Secretary, Rest of Maharashtra Statutory Development Board.

"Most of the officers were transferred keeping in mind the demands of ministers. The conflict between them was resulting in inefficiency of work. It was thus decided to transfer them," an official of the state Finance department said.

"The government is ready with its list of more round of transfers of around 15-20 officers which would take place in the first week of May. These transfers will have more to do with filling up vacant posts and relieving those who have been given additional charges," the official said.

The official added that a fresh batch of 11 IAS officers will also be given postings in various corporations.
