Two FIRs were lodged against Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament Prabhunath Singh and his supporters on Thursday for poll-related offences in Saran district, officials said.

Deputy Collector Dharmenda Kumar lodged the first FIR against Singh, his Private Secretary Jitendra Singh and other unidentified supporters for obstructing government work by breaking a barricade during filing of nomination by Singh from Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat on April 15.

The second FIR was lodged by Chapra Sadar SDO Rajeshwar Prasad allegedly for questioning the EC's integrity to prevent musclemen from stopping people belonging to weaker sections to cast their votes.

According to the complaint lodged under Representation of the People's Act, 1951, by the deputy commissioner, Singh and his supporters had broken a barricade set up near Town police station and stormed into the district collectorate premises for filing of nomination, against permissible entry of only five persons, the sources said.

The RJD MP had been granted permission to carry out road show upto Town police station chowk from the municipality entry point only ahead of filing of nomination by him.

Singh's private secretary Jitendra Singh too has been booked on the same charges as he had applied for permission of the road show and given commitment to the district authorities that the road show would end at the chowk.

The second FIR alleged that Singh's remakrs about EC's commitment to tackle musclemen were made seeking to bring disrepute to the EC during his address at an election meeting after filing of nomination by former chief minister Rabri Devi from Saran seat on April 12, the sources said.

The administration had earlier showcaused the RJD leader for making those remarks but his reply was not accepted by the authorities, following which the FIR was lodged, the sources said.
