Cosying up to suspended Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M K Alagiri, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday termed him as an "important person" and said the party would gain in the Lok Sabha polls if he extends his support to it.
"Alagiri is an important person and an Indian citizen and a voter and he has the strength. So, we are asking him, we are asking everybody," BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao, who is in-charge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu affairs, told reporters in New Delhi.
He was replying to a query on whether BJP was seeking support from Alagiri for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Rao said BJP would gain if Alagiri extends his support to the principal Opposition party in the ensuing elections.
"Each and every person count in making this campaign stronger and stronger... BJP gaining support from new person and new quarter it is a gain, it is always a gain," he said, while recalling Alagiri's support to make Narendra Modi as a Prime Minister.
Alagiri, the disgruntled son of DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, had reached out to BJP with an offer of support in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Alagiri, who was suspended from his party recently, met BJP president Rajnath Singh during his visit to Delhi last week.
