Aam Aadmi Party leader Gul Panag has denied reports of an attack on her in Varanasi on Friday.

However, Aam Aadmi Party supporter MTV VJ Raghu of the Roadies fame was manhandled inside the Banaras Hindu University campus after a scuffle broke out between AAP supporters and a group of students allegedly belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party's student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Panag, an AAP candidate in Chandigarh who is in Varanasi to campaign for Arvind Kejriwal, tweeted, "Just read about me being 'attacked'. Incorrect. Safe & sound. @tweetfromraghu though was attacked.”

Minutes before, Raghu tweeted, “Oh well. I just got attacked by 2 guys with lathis inside BHU! They were outsiders. The BHU boys chased them away.” "Have things come to this in Varanasi that visitors are unwelcome. I refuse to believe it," he said in another tweet.

Panag and Raghu were safe, but were chased away by a group of students when then went to campaign inside the BHU campus, party leaders had said earlier.

"They have attempted to attack her, but could not succeed. A group of BHU students chased them away, She is fine," an AAP spokesperson told PTI, while adding that those students were probably BJP supporters.

AAP workers have been alleging that BJP supporters have been attacking them.

Panag and Raghu are scheduled to join AAP leader and Varanasi candidate Arvind Kejriwal for his roadshow at the BHU gate.

Voting will take place in Varanasi on May 12. The campaign ends in Varanasi on Saturday.
