The systematic and comprehensive collection of a cohesive set of thoughts on an issue can help youth cultivate the ability to articulate their thoughts in a logical manner, observes President A P J Abdul Kalam.

Interacting with students at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi during the Third Annual Inter-School Speak Out Debate on Wednesday, the President said: "The first quality that a good debater cultivates is the ability to articulate his or her thoughts in a logical manner through continuous acquisition of knowledge, hard work and sincerity."

The topic of discussion was 'Youth Plays an Active Role in National Development.'

Kalam also spoke about the advantages of debates, saying: "Such competitions blossom the creative genius and the debating ability of the children. With a topic like 'Youth Plays an Active Role in National Development,' there can be no doubt on the affirmativeness on the youth's role in national development."

Later, the President handed out awards to Rhea Chaterji from Mayo College Girls, Ajmer; Shwetha Chandrashekhar from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, Chennai and Janani Rajashekhar from Srimati Ram Devi Sobhraj Bajaj Arya Vidya Mandir, Mumbai, who spoke for the motion.
