External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Tuesday urged activist Anna Hazare and his associates to contest general elections.

"They should contest the elections so that we all know who has the support of the people," he said.

Hazare and members of his team have gone on an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to seek the implementation of the Lokpal Bill

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Krishna conceded that Anna and his team wanted to bring about a positive change.

"They need to come to a conclusion about what method they want to adopt to bring about this change. I welcome them when they say they want to bring about a change and also when they say that they want to contest the elections. Fighting the elections is a good idea as it would then be a level playing field. Let us see who gets the support of the people," he said.
