The state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala V Muraleedharan has charged the State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mulapally Ramachandran of scuttling the probe in the palm-chopping incident of a professor from New Man College in Thodupuzha.
A group of eight people, allegedly members of the Popular Front of India, had chopped off the right palm of Prof T J Joseph, a Malayalam professor of Newman's College, while he was returning from his Sunday mass at a local church in Muvattupuzha.
The main accused in the case, Popular Front activist Ashraf, had told the police that a Taliban-model court Darul Khada (God's abode or God's court) had ordered the crime.
The Taliban court accused Joseph of preparing an internal question paper for second year B Com students of the college, which outraged the Muslim community, who found it defamatory to Prophet Mohammed.
The BJP president told the media on Friday that due to the political games played by Balakrishnan (Communist Party of India) and Ramachandran (Congress) the NIA had decided not to investigate into the case, which had international ramifications as there were allegations of involvement of Taliban court in this case.
The BJP leader said that two leaders have avoided an NIA probe, as it would expose the contacts several leaders of the Congress and the CPM had with Islamist terror organisations.
He also said that a CPI-M Member of Legislative Assembly had interfered in the release of Students Islamic Movement of India activists, who were arrested at the Panayikulam camp in Aluva on August 15, 2006.
The BJP leader also stated that Muslim League leaders had interfered to release National Democratic Front workers, who were involved in 88 criminal cases in Malappuram district.
The denial of NIA probe has proved the BJP's claim that there is a conspiracy to cover up the palm chopping case.
He alleged that Ramachandran, despite knowing the details of involvement of Islamic elements in the state, would not have informed the Union home ministry about happenings in Kerala.
