Union Minister and Kerala Congress leader, Vayalar Ravi has reacted with shock at the death of former Kerala Chief Minister K Karunkaran. Ravi told rediff.com on phone from New Delhi that this is a great loss not only for Kerala but for the Congress as a whole.
"In my view, Karunakaran was a towering personality and he has changed Kerala and its politics. His death has created a huge vaccum which will be next to impossible to fill. Karunakaran was known for his tough decisions and the thing that struck me the most about him was that he never feared making a decision. His developmental programmes when he was the chief minister are something to be emulated. Under his regime, Kerala saw a lot of development. There were many procedural hassles that came his way while he wanted to undertake developmental works, but he never let all that affect him and went ahead as he felt that his state needed to be developed," Moily said.
"Karunakaran was a very important member of the Congress and during the Narasimha Rao regime, he played kingmaker. In addition to being a towering personality, he also had his share of disagreements with many in the Congress. However none of these disagreements came in the way and everyone continued to refer to him as their leader. In his death the Kerala Congress has lost one of its greatest leaders," The law minister said.
