Communist Party of India - Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday stated that the Left parties would not compromise on the demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

Addressing a party rally in Guwahati, Karat said, "We have no intention to disrupt the next budget session, but the government has to order the JPC. Parliament has the right to demand a JPC as the 2G spectrum scam is the biggest one after the Independence. The Rs 1.76 lakh crore that was plundered in the 2G scam was three times more that the combined annual budget for education, health and NREGA."

The CPI-M leader underlined the urgent need for an alternative economic policy as the people were reeling under scorching prices for the 'wrong policies adopted by the United Progressive Alliance'. He said the spiralling prices of essential commodities had facilitated profit making by the corporate sector and big companies at the expense of the common people.

Referring to former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan being named in the Central Bureau of Investigation's chargesheet related to the Adarsh housing society scam, Karat alleged that corruption was rampant in all the Congress-ruled states in the country.

He also lambasted the BJP's anti-corruption drive, for the party's failure to take action against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa over corruption charges against him.

Karat claimed that there were no financial scams reported from the three states ruled by the Left Front -- West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura.
