After months of dilly dallying President A P J Abdul Kalam has finally given his appproval to an accommodation in New Delhi close to Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rashtrapati Bhavan made a formal announcement regarding this on Thursday evening.
According to a senior government minister, Kalam wanted a duplex house in Delhi and the agencies finally zeroed in on 10 Rajaji Marg, which is being presently occupied by the chief of Prasar Bharti.
Kalam will now be the neighbour of former prime minister V P Singh.
The residences of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sharad Yadav were also considered, but were dropped at the personal intervention of a powerful Union minister who was entrusted with the task of finding a new home for Kalam.
The minister said that there is no proposal from the Bihar government to host Kalam in Nalanda. "He will be a visiting professsor to the university," he clarified.
When contacted, a senior intelligence official confirmed that Kalam has finally put his stamp on 10 Rajaji Marg.
"In any case, he will have to stay in a guest house for at least three to four months before the security appratus is put in place and necessary renovation work is done to suit the status of a former President," the official said.
