President A P J Abdul Kalam fractured his right shoulder while on his routine walk in the Botanical Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 1300 hours, the President's press secretary S M Khan told rediff.com in New Delhi.

"This requires surgical correction followed by rest for as long as the doctors advise," Khan said.

The President will undergo operation at the Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi on Monday morning.

Khan said he would be admitted to the hospital on Sunday night.

The press secretary said adequate security arrangements are being made at the hospital for the President's stay.

Also, the governors' conference, which Kalam was to have inaugurated at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 8, has been postponed.
