A dance professor of Kalakshetra Foundation's Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, accused of sexual harassment, was arrested on Monday, the Chennai police said.

Three other male faculty members accused of sexually harassing the students should not be allowed entry into the premises, the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women chairperson A S Kumari told the Kalakshetra management.

Earlier, the city police arrested Hari Padman, a faculty member, against whom the police had earlier booked cases under Indian Penal Code Sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (use of acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman) along with Section 4 of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act based on a complaint.

He is among four faculty members accused of sexual harassment at the prestigious institution.

On April 2, a team of Tamil Nadu police went to Kerala to record the statements of witnesses in the sexual harassment case against Padman, the police added.

Meanwhile, Kalakshetra director Revathi Ramachandran appeared before the women's panel.

Commission chief Kumari told reporters that she had sought some details from the institute over its internal complaints committee (ICC), that went into sexual harassment issues and its composition.

She said she had made it clear that students’ safety and an "atmosphere of safety" should be ensured in the premises.

While there has been "police action" against one of the accused, "three others should not be allowed into the premises," and this has been conveyed to the institute management, to which it has acceded to, Kumari told reporters.
