Nobel winning author Jose Saramago dead: Reports

Nobel Prize-winning Portuguese novelist Jose Saramago has died on the Canary island of Lanzarote where he lived, emerging reports said, quoting his Spanish publishers.

The 1998 Nobel prize winner, whose novels are very popular in India, was 87.   

His major works include "Blindness" and "The Cave", had spent several periods in hospital recently, for what Spanish media said were respiratory problems.
