Three unidentified terrorists were killed in a fierce encounter in north Kashmir Baramulla district on Thursday.
Based on specific information about presence of terrorists in the area of Mankal forest, north of Nowgam, in the frontier Baramulla district, a joint operation was launched by army's 1-NAGA and the Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday evening," a defence spokesman said in Srinagar on Thursday evening.
"We established contact with the terrorists on Thursday morning, and in the ensuing encounter, three unidentified terrorists, likely to be foreigners, were killed. The identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained. Search operations are in progress," Srinagar based defence spokesperson Lt Colonel J S Brar said.
"Three AK-47 rifles, one pistol, one under barrel grenade launcher, Rs 20,000 in cash in Indian currency, two compasses, one Global Positioning System, one radio set, one mobile phone, map sheets and a large quantity of ammunition including grenades, have been recovered," he added.
