Militants on Wednesday evening attacked the vehicle of the area station house officer with a powerful hand grenade that exploded injuring a cop in Lar village of north Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

A senior police officer said militants lobbed a grenade at the vehicle of SHO Ganderbal near Lar village on the Srinagar Leh highway this evening.

"The grenade exploded near the passing vehicle injuring a policeman, who was shifted to hospital for treatment," the officer said.

The SHO, however, escaped unhurt in the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
