The Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a first information report against Health Minister Shabir Ahmad Khan for alleged sexual assault after a complaint by a woman doctor.

Police sources said that on the direction of a local court an FIR has been registered in the Shaheed Gunj police station against Khan, a Congress legislator from Rajouri.

A complaint has been lodged by a doctor, who had accused the minister of sexual harassment. According to her, Khan summoned her to his cabin on the pretext of seeking details about Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's health sector announcements during a recent visit to the hospital where he works.

She alleged that he made provocative advances “amounting to molestation”.

The FIR has been lodged under sections 354 and 509 of the Ranbir Penal Code. The minister faces arrest and if proven guilty he could be imprisoned for a period of two years.
