J&K: 2 militants, jawan killed in encounters

Two militants, an army trooper were killed and a police officer wounded in two separate encounters in the Rajouri district of Jammu region on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said security forces surrounded forest areas near Kandi and Ranthal villages in the Rajouri district on specific information about presence of militants there.

"As the security forces were searching the forest areas, the hiding militants opened fire triggering encounters at both the places. So far two militants and an army soldier have been killed in the Kandi encounter," the officer said.

"Another trooper was critically wounded in the ongoing encounter there."

He said the local station house officer was wounded in the other encounter at Ranthal village forest area.

"We will resume the searches in the two forest areas with the first light tomorrow," he added.
