Indian American Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has extended his support to Mitt Romney, who is expected to bag the Republican Party's nomination for presidential polls.

In a statement, Jindal said he looks forward to supporting Romney in the presidential elections in November.

Jindal announced his endorsement of Romney on Tuesday, hours after former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania dropped out of the race.

"Congratulations to Governor Romney on winning a hard fought race, I look forward to supporting him in retiring President Obama," Jindal said in a statement.

"I'd also like to congratulate Senator Santorum for running a strong race and for making the difficult decision to step aside at this time," he added.

"It's time for all Republicans to focus their energies on the fall campaign which will give Americans a fundamental choice between Obama's lurch toward European style big government and the Republican alternative of a thriving private sector with a smaller government," Jindal said.

This was Jindal's first statement supporting Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts.

Jindal had initially endorsed Rick Perry, the governor of neighboring Texas.

After Perry withdrew from race, Jindal was keeping quite.

Mainstream American media has named Jindal among the list f possible vice presidential running mate of Romney.
