Jagan's uncle refuses to leave Congress

In what appears to be a setback for former Congress member of Parliament Jagan Mohan Reddy, his uncle Vivekananda Reddy on Tuesday made it clear that he will abide only by the Congress high command's orders.

In a statement issued in Hyderabad, Reddy, brother of late Y S Rajashekhar Reddy, has dismissed the allegations made by his nephew that the Congress was trying to split the party.

Jagan, who quit the Congress on Monday, had in a detailed letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi said that the party top brass's decision to invite his uncle to New Delhi was an attempt to split the party. He said that this was the last straw for him and prompted his decision to quit the Congress.

But Vivekananda Reddy on Tuesday claimed that he had gone to Delhi on his own.

"I wanted a ministry in the new state cabinet and that is why I had gone to Delhi," he said.

"I am not sure about my fate in the new cabinet, but I will do whatever the high command asks me to do and I shall remain with the Congress," he said.

Jagan's followers are trying to put pressure on Reddy to leave the party, as the Kadappa MP had resigned citing his uncle's case.

Jagan has refused to react to the statement and is presently at his father's home at Idupalapaya. He will return to Hyderabad on Thursday and decide on the next course of action.
