Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday warned that the days of the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh were numbered as it was neglecting the farmers in distress.

"Any government that neglects the farmers, particularly during times of distress, would fall. The current Congress government is remaining indifferent to the plight of farmers who are hard hit by many natural calamities this year," Jagan said addressing a gathering at Avanigadda in Krishna district.

The former Kadapa member of Parliament, who launched his tour of the rain-affected areas in Guntur and Krishna districts, visited Repalle, Peteru and other villages on the other side of river Krishna before reaching Avanigadda late on Saturday night. He also inspected crops damaged due to heavy rains last week.

Jagan demanded that the interest on crop loans be waived off completely as farmers were not in a position to repay loans due to the insurmountable losses suffered in last one year.

At Peteru, which has a sizable number of handloom weavers, Jagan also came down on the government for neglecting the community despite the many hardships faced by it.

Jagan, who announced that he would float a new political party soon, had to extend his two-day tour by another day due to the huge response from the people. He will tour parts of Krishna district tomorrow to inspect damaged crops and talk to farmers.
