An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir as the operation against the ultras entered the third day on Tuesday.

"One more militant has been killed in the ongoing operation in Kalaroos area of Kupwara district," an army official said.

This has taken the death toll of militants to five in the operation, which was launched on Sunday. Four militants were killed on the first day while an army jawan also was killed in the encounter.

At least three militants had managed to slip away from the cordon of the security forces, who continued the search operation in the area. The security forces managed to track down the militants on Monday and engaged them in a gun battle. One army jawan was killed.

A militant and an army jawan were killed in another operation along the Line of Control in Keran sector of the district on Sunday.
