Jawaharlal Nehru University Admission Announcement: 2004-05

 

Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of India's premier universities, will hold entrance examinations on May 15, 16, 17, and 18 in 45 cities spread all over India and in Kathmandu, Dhaka and Colombo.

 

The exams will be held for admission to the following programs:
 

M Phil/PhD                             International Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities, Foreign Languages, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Sanskrit Studies, and Law & Governance

 

M Phil/PhD, M Tech/PhD        Computer and Systems Sciences

 

PhD                                        Physical Sciences, Biotechnology, and Molecular Medicine

 

MCH/PhD                                Master of Community Health

 

M Phil                                     Portuguese

 

Advanced (PG) Diploma         Bio-informatics

 

MCA                                        Master of Computer Applications

 

MA                                          Politics (with specialization in International Relations), Economics, Political Science, Sociology, English, Linguistics, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish, and Arts & Aesthetics

 

MSc                                        Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Physics

 

BA (Honours)                           Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Persian Russian, and Spanish (with entry points to both 1st and 2nd year)

 

JRF Holders: The University also admits a limited number of candidates to M Phil/PhD and Pre-PhD programmes (without appearing in the Entrance Examination) who have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF in Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer & System Sciences, & Centers for Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine

 

Foreign Nationals:

All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear for the Entrance Examination at any one of the centres in India. Candidates from Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh may give the exams in their countries.

 

Reservation of Seats: 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for PH (Physically Challenged [Handicapped] with a minimum of 40% disability) are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories.

 

How to Apply: Application Forms and Prospectus may be purchased from the university by paying cash from 10 am to 3 pm on working days or via post by sending a bank draft of Rs 200 payable to Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, along with a self-addressed envelope of 28 cm x 20 cm, indicating which degree/diploma programme applied for, to:

Candidates wishing to appear at Kathmandu, Colombo and Dhaka are required to send a bank draft of Indian Rs 250 or US$5. Money orders and cheques not accepted.

Last date for issue of application forms at university:                     March 31, 2004

 

Last date for receipt of completed application forms:                     April 2, 2004
