The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad invites applications for its Graduate Diploma Programme in Design & Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design.

Graduate Diploma Programme in Design: The four-year GDPD is offered in the following disciplines under four faculty streams:

1. Industrial Design: Product Design, Furniture and Interior Design, Ceramic & Glass Design.

2. Communication Design: Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication.

3. Exhibition Design.

4. Textile & Apparel Design: Textile Design, Integrated Programme in Textile & Apparel Design.

Eligibility: Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2).

Upper age limit for candidates is 22 years (25 years for SC/ST candidates) as on June 1, 2004.

Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design: The two to two-and-a-half year PGDPD is offered in specific areas of specialisation in 13 disciplines, under three faculties. Admission is open to candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the areas mentioned against each discipline. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year 2003-04 may also apply.

1.Industrial Design

i. Product Design: B Tech/BE/B Arch.

ii. Furniture & Interior Design: B Tech/BE/B Arch/Interior Design.

iii. Ceramic & Glass Design: B Tech/BE/B Arch/Ceramic & Glass Design Technology/BFA (Sculpture)

iv. Toy Design & Development: B Tech/BE/B Arch/BIT/Child Development/Therapy. Graduates in any other area with experience/abilities for Toy Design/Digital Media can also apply.

2. Textile & Apparel Design

v. Textile Design: BFA/Applied Arts/Textile/Handloom Technology/Textile/ Knitwear/ Fashion Design/Home Science with Textile & Clothing.

vi. Apparel Design & Merchandising: BFA/Applied Arts, Textile/Knitwear/Fashion Design or graduates in merchandising or any other disciplines with proven proficiency in drawing and garment construction/presentation.

vii. Lifestyle Accessory Design: BFA/B Arch/Applied Arts/ Design/Architecture/Interior Design/Accessory Design and relevant disciplines in Technology and Engineering.

3. Communication Design

viii. Graphic Design: BFA (Painting)/Applied Arts/B Arch/Graduates with experience in Graphic Design.

ix. Animation Film Design: BFA/Applied Arts/Design/B Arch/Communication Media/Film & TV/ Mass Media/Graduates with experience in Animation Industry.

x. Film & Video Communication: Arts/Humanities or graduates in any other discipline with a proven background for Visual and Communication Arts.

xi. New Media: BFA/Applied Arts/B Tech/BE/B Arch/Design/Communication Media/Computer Science.

xii. Software & User Interface Design: BE(Computer Science)/B Arch/BIT/ or graduates in Electronics and Communication/Applied Psychology or any other area with experience in Software Industry.

xiii. Information & Digital Design: B Arch or graduates in Management/Computer Applications/IT/Engineering (Electronics/ Communication/Computer/Industrial)

Candidates with work experience after graduation will be preferred. Age relaxation up to 3 years for general candidates with relevant work experience may also be considered.

Upper age limit for candidates is 27 years (30 years for SC/ST candidates) as on June 1, 2004.

Admission Procedure:

Application forms and the prospectus are available on request on payment of Rs 750 (Rs 350 for SC/ST candidates) by demand draft, drawn in favour of the National Institute of Design payable at Ahmedabad.

Forms can be downloaded from NID's web site http://www.nid.edu

Forms are also available at selected branches of Bank of India across the country.

All candidates fulfilling the requirements of minimum qualification and within the prescribed age limit will be called for the admission tests to be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi (NID reserves its right to cancel any of these centres).

Important dates:

Last date for obtaining application forms from Bank of India: November 25, 2003.

Last date for issuing of forms by post from NID: November 25, 2003.

Last date for receiving completed forms at NID: November 30, 2003.

Date of examination: PGDPD: January 10, 2004. GDPD: January 11, 2004.
