India's COVID-19 tally crosses 15-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 tally went past 15 lakh on Wednesday, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark, with 48,513 fresh cases recorded in a day while the recoveries surged to 9,88,029, according to the Union health ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases climbed to 15,31,669, while the country's death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span, the data updated at 8 am showed.

There are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.

 

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 64.51 per cent.

This is the seventh consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 45,000.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a cumulative total of 1,77,43,740 samples have been tested up to July 28 with 4,08,855 samples being tested on Tuesday.

Of the 768 fresh deaths reported, 282 are from Maharashtra, 102 from Karnataka, 88 from Tamil Nadu, 58 from Andhra Pradesh, 41 from Uttar Pradesh, 38 from West Bengal, 28 from Delhi, 24 from Gujarat, 18 from Punjab, 16 from Bihar and 13 from Rajasthan.

Twelve fatalities have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir, 10 from Madhya Pradesh, nine from Haryana, seven from Odisha, four each from Kerala, Puducherry, Tripura and Uttarakhand, two each from Assam, Chhattisgarh, and Ladakh.

The figures of Telangana, in terms of cases and deaths have been not updated on the website as the data was "awaited" from the state government, the ministry mentioned.

Of the total 34,193 deaths reported so far, Maharashtra has reported the maximum at 14,165, followed by 3,881 in Delhi, 3,659 in Tamil Nadu, 2,372 in Gujarat, 2,055 in Karnataka, 1,497 in Uttar Pradesh, 1,449 in West Bengal, 1,148 in Andhra Pradesh and 830 in Madhya Pradesh.

So far, 644 people have died of COVID-19 in Rajasthan, 480 in Telangana (updated figures awaited from state government), 406 in Haryana, 336 in Punjab, 333 in Jammu and Kashmir, 269 in Bihar, 154 in Odisha, 89 in Jharkhand, 88 in Assam, 70 in Uttarakhand and 67 in Kerala.
