India, Mauritius sign 3 MoUs during Prez Pranab's visit

India and Mauritius on Tuesday signed three memorandums of understanding during the three-day State visit of President Pranab Mukherjee.  One MoU was on persons with disabilities and senior citizens, another on cooperation in the field of health and medicine, and the third was on cooperation in the field of tourism. 

The MoU on persons with disabilities and senior citizens was signed between the Indian ministry of social justice and the Mauritian ministry of social security, national solidarity and reform institutions.

Specifically, the MoU covers development of collaboration programme in the field of empowerment of persons with disabilities and senior citizens; exchange of resource persons in the identified fields; strengthening capacity-building of personnel and NGOs in the identified fields; exchange programmes for the benefit of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and NGO leaders/ volunteers in these fields; holding of seminars, workshops, symposia; and conducting joint research and exchange of research outcomes.

Another MoU in cooperation in health and medicine covers medical research: clinical and health systems, including health service planning; lab and diagnostics; drugs and pharmaceutical products: quality control; clinical pharmacy practice; rational drug use; traditional medicine; health tourism; telemedicine; training: cardiac and vascular surgeries; complex retinal surgeries; spinal surgeries; opportunistic infections in HIV patients; maintenance of equipment for biomedical technicians and surgical technologists; chronic disease management; quality assurance for laboratories; training in gerontology, community health services for nurses and in cyto screeners; training in midwifery; training in podiatry and diabetes foot care. 

The MoU on cooperation in the field of tourism enhances cooperation between the two governments in expansion of bilateral cooperation in tourism sector; exchange of information and data related to tourism; encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels and tour operators; establishing exchange programmes for cooperation in human resource development; investment in the tourism and hospitality sectors; exchanging visits of tour operators/media/opinion makers for promotion of two-way tourism; exchange of experience in the areas of promotion, marketing, destination development and management; participation in travel fairs/exhibitions in each other’s country; promoting safe, honourable and sustainable tourism.
