Piyush Goyal, treasurer of Bhartiya Janata party and noted charted accountant, has confirmed that he did advise D B Realty --  a Shahid Balwa company, one of the prime accused in 2G spectrum scam -- for raising equity by going to the public.

He was responding to media reports that revealed dealings between him and Balwa's D B Realty.BJP had been vocal on the issue of 2G spectrum scam and did not allow the winter session of Parliament to function as the party has bent up asking for a Joint Parliamentary Committee for probing the 2G scam.

With these revelations BJP is now on its backfoot. Names of some other BJP members of Parliament have also figured for their dealings with Balwa. A source revealed on Saturday that the Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the alleged between Balwa and Goyal.

"His residence and offices may be raided in the next few days," a source told rediff.com. The source revealed that the CBI has in its possession several documents regarding the alleged links between Balwa and Goel, including receipts for some monetary transactions. D B Realty issued a cheque of Rs 15 crore to Piyush's company for consultancy.

A press statement issued by Goyal says, "Some reports have appeared in media alleging my professional companies' relationship with DB Realty. I therefore consider it necessary to put the facts in the correct perspective," it says.

"I am a Chartered Accountant and investment banker and my companies are one of the highest tax-paying professional services companies. I have advised several major clients on corporate strategy and raising equity both from the public and private market. Many of these are well-known entities in the corporate world," it says.

"As a part of my company's professional engagement, I also advised the real-estate business of DB Realty for raising equity. As is well-known, several international professionals, lawyers, merchant bankers and international audit firms were also engaged in the Initial Public Offering with me. I have never been engaged in relation to their telecom business," he said in the press note.

He however went on to claim that his engagement with the DB Realty IPO with them ended over a year ago. "Even my professional fee in lieu thereof has not yet been realised because of current issues in their group," he said.

"My relationship with their real estate company was professional. I reiterate that I never had anything to do even professionally as far as their communication/telecom business is concerned, "it said.
