Gangster Brijesh Singh, who was evading police for the past two decades, has been arrested from Orissa, a Delhi Police official said on Thursday.

Singh was caught by a joint team of Delhi Police's Special Cell and their Orissa counterparts from Bada Bazar area in Bhubhaneswar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnail Singh told PTI.

Singh, who has been a terror in eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, is the brother of former BJP member of legislative council Chilbul Singh.

Rivalry between Singh and Mukhtar Ansari, the controversial legislator from Mau in UP, had resulted in the loss of many lives, sources said, adding that his gang was also allegedly involved in the smuggling of coal from trains and that Singh used to flaunt his political connections.

He was wanted in a number of cases and warrants issued by courts were pending against him.
