Heavy snowfall shuts highways in Himachal

Cold wave conditions intensified in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

The mid and lower hills received heavy rainfall and sleet affecting road traffic and power supply.

The 350 km-long Indo-Tibetan National Highway, the Kullu-Manali National Highway and link roads in Shimla, Kullu, Chamba and Mandi districts were closed.

Power supply was also disrupted in Kinnaur and adjoining districts.

The tourist resorts of Manali, Dalhousie, Kufri and Narkanda received 30 cm to 50 cm of snowfall while Solang, Dhundi, Mari and Rohtang were covered under 200 cm to 300 cm of snow.

The Dhauladhar mountain ranges, Churdhar ranges, Kharapatthar and Chansel pass also recieved snowfall since Sunday.

The high altitude tribal areas faced an avalanche threat after experiencing heavy snowfall for three days.
